Don’t Let Her Go!

Today I listened closely to the lyrics of Passenger’s new song, “Let Her Go” and it struck a chord (pun intended) with me. It reminded me that no matter how good life is, how much we love someone, or how much we accomplish, we need to remember and never take those we love and cherish for granted.

Why? Because you “only need the light when it’s burning low, only miss the sun when it starts to snow, only know your lover when you let her go. Only know you’ve been high when you’re feeling low, Only hate the road when we’re missing home…” So, don’t let her go. Simple, isn’t it? Not so much, judging by all the unhappiness in the world due to failed marriages, missed loves and heartbreak in general. Look, I know we can’t be happy 24/7/365 but we can certainly try to curb our (false) enthusiasm when it comes to actions and events that we most certainly know will cause heartbreak or tear at the fabric of our love. Maybe human nature, attraction and regret is all intricately woven when it comes to love, sex and life. Or maybe it’s just like the moth that is drawn to a flame.

Take a listen and think about your habits, actions, and thoughts – are you prone to only see the good in someone or a situation after you’ve lost it or worse yet, thrown it away carelessly?

Simple message. Value what you have. I’m sure that’s at least 75% of what it takes to be happy.
